Roblox is officially entering the esports world with the announcement of its first-ever Roblox Creator Showdown, a competitive event intended to shine a light on several of the biggest creators on the platform. Slated for December 4th at 2 PM PT (10 PM GMT) in Los Angeles, California, eight of the best content creators around will go head-to-head in competition for a portion of the $50,000 (~£37,493) prize pool.
According to Roblox, this tournament represents the company’s commitment to creating new opportunities for its global community and celebrating the creativity of those who build, stream, and engage with Roblox experiences daily. The move comes during a period of rapid growth for the platform, which surpassed 1 trillion YouTube views earlier this summer-evidence of Roblox’s massive cultural influence.
The event will pair the eight creators into four teams, competing across four popular Roblox titles. This includes Ink Game, a Squid Game–inspired experience, along with Tower of Hell, Rivals, and Blue Lock Rivals. Each title tests different skills ranging from survival mechanics and obstacle navigation to first-person shooting. Fans will also get to vote for wildcard titles, adding bonus point challenges and extra layers of unpredictability to the competition.
Hosting the Creator Showdown is esports personality Mimi “aEvlicat” Wermcrantz, joined by Australian Roblox creator Bundun, to ensure a high-energy, creator-friendly atmosphere.
The participating creators are:
Katrina Buno
Caylus
Foltyn
MeEnyu
Cakemiix
IBella
Nico
Steak
Among them is Katrina Buno, cited as one of the biggest stars on Roblox, with 11 million subscribers on YouTube. Another crowd favorite is Caylus, who brings in an even bigger audience of over 19 million subscribers. With such influential figures on board, the Creator Showdown can expect to reach millions across the globe.
Launched in 2006, Roblox grew to become one of the world’s biggest gaming platforms. Recently, CEO David Baszucki announced that the platform peaked at more than 45 million players running concurrently on the site, a testament to its huge potential for esports growth. With a rich library of competitively ready games, Roblox is well-placed to build a full-fledged esports ecosystem if it decides to move further into the industry. Live streaming of the Roblox Creator Showdown can be viewed on Roblox’s official YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok channels, or fans can jump into The Block in-game experience to enjoy the event within Roblox itself.
